I'm alive, I'm out of bed, I have coffee, and I ate cold pizza for breakfast. Not a bad way to start the day.
Can't say as much for Edward the betta, who succumbed to whatever was ailing him. RIP Mr. Rochester!

I have 2 weeks of offical vacation - time with no work obligations or trips planned. However, I need to start planning for the coming year. My boss seems to think a combo class won't be a problem, even though he prefers not to have them; the district curriculum specialist had a less sunny outlook. We were just looking at math the day I asked for her insight, and she didn't know what to tell me. Nice.

Home is a mess, and I'm too lazy to remedy that. Later, yes, later. Soon, actually, since I need maintenance to fix my ceiling fan.

I still need a random icon, which requires a picture to base it off of. Yet another thing to do.

Tomorrow: sleep in, get my hair cut, get baby shouwer gift, grade math tests, put a few more songs on iTunes/iPod.
Sunday: church, usual weekend chores, finish up report cards (comments - my least favorite part).

Coldplay has a free download of LeftRightLeftRightLeft at http://lrlrl.coldplay.com/leftright.html

I haven't peeled my page-a-day calendar since Sunday. Haven't even looked at it, I think. Now I have, and it's nice to have a few days of story in a row.

I want this school year to be over. Will I even make it next week? A couple of girls drive me nuts when they are in the room at the same time. Huge disruptions and nothing has gotten through to them. Must work on new behavior plan for next year. Must learn how to be strict, and hope that the problem kids have working phone numbers.

How do I word a report card comment "your daughter does what she wants to and doesn't do what she doesn't want to do, which is part of the reason why she's failing math" but in more acceptable language? I hate writing comments.

Frederick [Wentworth-Hale] is my newest betta's name.

I wish I were a better (i.e. more interesting) writer. My lj entries sometimes bore me.

I also want to be a better teacher. Would be nice if I could plan with other teachers and share ideas with them. Maybe next year will be different. Speaking of next year, I get to move rooms again! :P There goes another week of my summer.

Sleep is drawing my eyelids shut, but I need a shower first.

I still love reading Jane Eyre, opening to random pages. Page 198 of my Penguin Classics copy is one of my favorites. I'm pretty sure I squeed when I read it.

Let's see...Gimli, my oldest betta, died last Saturday. He was over 3 yars old, and the first betta I got after moving to AZ. I made it until Monday before getting a new one. He's a blue-green crowntail, still on the small side. He's also still nameless, though I almost called him Vincent after seeing Vincent the dog on Lost. No name is really sticking to this betta yet, though I've considered Daniel Vincent, Fredrick, or maybe Thornton. I must keep up the tradition of fandom names. SO far I've used LOTR, Lost, and period films.

I need to pay the utility bill, but I have to get stamps.

I need coffee.

Later on, I'm going to play Rock Band at a friend's house.

14 days of school left, and much work left to do. Argh.

I'm too lazy to explain much this morning.

My new betta's name is Fiery Nicholas. Fiery because of his coloring, and Nicholas after Nicholas Higgins from N&S. I can't break the tradition of naming bettas after fandom characters.

I'll post a picture when I'm able to get a good shot without using the flash.

Break time!

Writing samples are scored, so I gave myself a break. I still have to finish grading a math test and then move on to report cards. I started the comments last week, but have yet to put grades on them.

This morning was the district carnival, where I worked a game booth. Student council reps from the middle school were out helping, and one was offered to help at my booth, specifically to pick up the bean bags so we wouldn't have to bend down so much. I said I would be ok, but oy, I think I'm getting old. Squatting down over and over quickly made my legs sore, so when a student came over to help, I readily accepted. My only other choice was to sit by the clown cut-out and toss the bags back in the bucket, but the other teacher working wasn't always doing her part. Luckily she realized she had to gab later and take tickets/give prizes. I forgot sunscreen this morning and so my face is a bit red.

When my shift was over, I walked around, said hi to present and past students, and then went to Petco. Yes, I got another betta. Shoot, I almost got 3! I found a dark blue and orange one, a combination I'd never seen before. Then I found another very similar, and also a light blue and orange guy. I wanted all three, but only took one. No names are popping into mind at present.

Lastly, I finally found Girl Scout cookies! Someone gave me half a box yesterday, and then today people (moms or troop leaders, no Girl Scouts to be seen) were selling them outside the store near Petco. I've got my Samoas and Tagalongs for the year :)

Daniel the betta died last night. I have no idea what was wrong with him. For a couple of days he kept wedging himself in the corner, like he was trying to get under the marbles. This morning he was gone.

This is my new guy. I said he was pale blue, but as with most bettas, his true color is hard to describe.

Thornton?
Daniel?
Something else?

Enlighten me please, someone, anyone. I can remember wetting my pants (pajamas, actually) one time at about 5 years old. I was brushing my teeth and thought I had to finish that before going to the bathroom. It was no big deal, but still pretty embarrassing to me, even at that young age. So, today when one of my students (4th grade) waited until she was in agony before asking to go to the bathroom comes back in with different pants on and a sad look on her face. I just stopped what I was doing, gave her a hug, and whispered encouragement into her ear. My question is this: is 10 years too old to be having to pee so bad you don't make it to the bathroom? I mean, she did wait a while, but I have several students who do the overly dramatic peepee dance on a regular basis. The above mentioned girl is one of them, though usually she can wait until we have a break or whatever. I tend to be of the mindset that if it didn't happen to me, I don't understand why some things happen the way they do.

I got another betta. I can't help myself, empty tanks are just sad! I found one the same color as Charlie was, but decided against an almost-identical fish. So, the new guy is pale blue. He needs a name, though I have s strong leaning toward either Thornton or Daniel.

I have a crapton of tasks I should be doing, and here I am.

I've got the new-layout itch, but I'm too lazy to search for one.

Thai coconut curry with brown rice and chicken from Pei Wei = yum.

Three days of training, and thus away from the kids, was great. Hearing about the behavior problems, not so great.

Last night, I put Charlie the betta out of his misery. So long, Charlie! Gimli is also acting sick, though he doesn't look swollen or mottled. He is 3 years old, however.

I have papers to grade, but I think I'll clean instead.

Lost last night...poor Sawyer! He misses Kate :~(

I love calendars. I have 4: 2 at home, 2 at school.
Life cereal is awesome.
It's day one of of the 3 days each month where I'm completely starving all the time.
I have trouble taking the time to write out all that I want to write on here.
I promised another teacher I'd get to school by 930am tomorrow. I will do it.
Over the break, it felt wonderful to not be a teacher. I usually forgot about work till someone asked. Last night I got a little depressed knowing I have to go back soon.
I'm mostly over my car being broken into. Window fixed, frame needs a little patching up. If the damage had been worse, I would be more upset.
I wish I could explain to people my faith, beliefs, why I get so excited by what I learn in church, why it's so cool when things in the Bible make sense to me, etc, but I can't even explain it to myself most times.
Need to email pics to people.
The singleness blues do 5-minute sneak attacks about once a day.
I drink too much Starbucks and need to cut back.
All of my stuff is still waiting to be unpacked, but at least I cleaned the fish tanks tonight.

I really should go to bed.
As usual, I forgt much of what I intended to post.

The original plan to stop at Michael's to get some marbles or rocks for my bamboo vase turned into getting two new bettas at Petsmart. I need to go to Petco tomorrow to check out their selection of possible homes for the guys. I have two empty tanks already, but I think I want something slightly bigger.

Petsmart has a ton of bettas, and they were right inside the door. I picked one up that looked kind of pretty, red with a very pale blue iridescent sheen on his body, but his face is red and sort of looks like a mask. It makes him look a little funny, but he was feisty. Behind him was a bright, royal blue guy with red front fins, very pretty and also feisty. I didn't know which one I wanted, so I just got both. Many of the bettas just sit there when you look or pick up the container, but these two were moving and checking me out as well. Very endearing.

So, I'm driving home and wondering what to name them. My bettas' names so far have been Viggo, Sam, Legolas, Frodo, Gimli, Bernard, and Charlie. Gimli and Charlie I still have. Seeing as the previous names have come from my fandoms, I thought I should follow the trend. The name Edward came to mind, and it immediately seemed to fit the red/pale blue betta. Edward, as in Edward Rochester from Jane Eyre, who is not considered handsome but loved just the same. For the blue betta, I'm torn between Darcy and Moby. Moby because I've been listening to my Moby cd for a few weeks now, and Darcy from Pride and Prejudice.

Help me with names!

RIP Frodo

After an illness of a few weeks, Frodo has died. He was hte last betta I brought from CA. Now, I'm down to two, Gimli and Charlie. I need to get them some new friends!

RIP Bernard

One of my bettas got sick suddenly. He was fine this morning, but tonight as I went to get his tank to clean it, I saw he was swollen and sunk to the bottom. He was still alive, but whatever infection had gotten to him was working fast. So, goodbye Bernard. You will be missed.

Ok, my dvd player just crapped out on me. It suddenly stopped playing, but didn't say pause or anything. When I tried stopping/restarting it, the screen said "bad disc" and when I tried another, it failed to load. I'm hoping a little cooling off will fix it. I have no idea what's wrong, or why it suddenly stopped working.
