Enlighten me please, someone, anyone. I can remember wetting my pants (pajamas, actually) one time at about 5 years old. I was brushing my teeth and thought I had to finish that before going to the bathroom. It was no big deal, but still pretty embarrassing to me, even at that young age. So, today when one of my students (4th grade) waited until she was in agony before asking to go to the bathroom comes back in with different pants on and a sad look on her face. I just stopped what I was doing, gave her a hug, and whispered encouragement into her ear. My question is this: is 10 years too old to be having to pee so bad you don't make it to the bathroom? I mean, she did wait a while, but I have several students who do the overly dramatic peepee dance on a regular basis. The above mentioned girl is one of them, though usually she can wait until we have a break or whatever. I tend to be of the mindset that if it didn't happen to me, I don't understand why some things happen the way they do.

I got another betta. I can't help myself, empty tanks are just sad! I found one the same color as Charlie was, but decided against an almost-identical fish. So, the new guy is pale blue. He needs a name, though I have s strong leaning toward either Thornton or Daniel.

I have a crapton of tasks I should be doing, and here I am.

Nope, ten isn't too old. I had it happen to me when I was in 7th grade. (Yes, I seem to be a poster child for all things embarrassing.) It even happens to adults at times, sadly enough.

*snort* I've sneezed & peed a bit before - it is really embarrassing, even if you're the only one who knows it happened!

And yes...I had a weak bladder when I was a kid and wet the bed here & there until I was 11ish - would dream that I was ON the toilet...and wake up wet. IT SUCKED SO MUCH.

Oh, no. Horrible flash backs.
I think I was in 2nd grade, in the computer lab. I NEEDED to go to the bathroom. I had my hand raised FOREVER! (my 2nd grade brain can only remember that it was forever, but my 2nd grade brain isn't as unreliable as most) but the teacher never even looked my way. Being such a rule follower, I wouldn't dare go tap her on the shoulder to tell her so when I couldn't hold it anymore, it just happened. Sooo embarrassing.

Then in 6th grade I was sure there would be a repeat when my math teacher flat out refused to let me go! It still makes me mad. I'm not one of those kids who asked to go to the bathroom everyday, in fact I hated using the school bathroom. I thought I would lose it right there in the 6th grade. I still want to know why she wouldn't let me go. It's not like class was almost over or something.

lol sorry for the rants. Maybe that girl thought she could hold it.

I like the names Daniel and Thornton for a blue betta. Maybe Daniel since it's a light blue. If it was dark I'd day Thornton in a heartbeat.
Just my take on it ;)

Well the betta is light and dark blue at the same time. I will post a picture later to show what I mean.

I had a couple of 3rd graders do that...I think it's a matter of that age being a combination of knowing when you need to go, but not wanting to ask because of not wanting to interrupt or break rules or whatever.

I have a system where the kids get 4 tickets for 5 days. They must pay a ticket to use the bathroom during class time. 4 tickets at the end of the week = a Jolly Rancher. You wouldn't believe how excited that one piece of candy is to some of them. It seemed like kids were constantly going to the bathroom all day, and the ticket system has helped. I never deny a kid who has run out of tickets and looks desperate, but I warn them about using them too quickly. Maybe it's because we had 3 recesses a day in elementary school (shocking!) and my kids only have one, but I never remember so many kids going to the bathroom. My classroom is on the other side of the wall from the girls bathroom, so I hear the hand dryer going all day long.
