Still working on my resume. Looked at resume tips websites. Brain-dumped a few more skills on my word document. Looked at job listings emails as well as one city website. Need to get that resume created! People keep saying to apply for things even if I don't have all of the listed qualifications. Well, I will, once I get the resume done. However, the websites make it seem like one little mistake in a resume will have it passed by after the 6-second glance recruiters give it. Sigh. I HAVE SKILLS. I just don't know how to word them in a non-teaching resume.

I need a goal for today. Hmm. Maybe send my list so far to Elizabeth. Actually, my current goal is to get away from the computer for a while as my eyes are starting to bug out. Housework still needs to be done. I also can't wait to hit the treadmill again. Last night I did a random workout - the incline changed at random intervals. Holy cow, I don't know if I really burned 346 calories in 42 minutes but when the incline was up there, and at 4mph, I was really huffing and puffing. Not knowing what I was getting into, I made the settings a little high and had to lower them as I went. I'll try a slightly lower intensity today.

Yes, just call me difficult, but for the time being I will copy and paste entries from LJ to here. Because for whatever reason(s), I still <3 LJ.
ringsandcoffee: (Default)
Also LJ folks, but still.

I am making the effort to read my flist here as often as I remember. Still considering cross-posting, but all my icons are on LJ, and I'm a creature of habit. But, I am checking here for those who migrated entirely.

I need to learn how to crosspost. Please bear with me.

1. What was your favorite past time in high school?
Going to 7-11 at lunch with Allison and Jeff. Lots of junk food was consumed.

2. What is your all time favorite board game/card game?
I never had a game I LOVED SO MUCH, but I do really enjoy Apples to Apples or Uno.

3. What is the last movie you saw at the theatre and what did you think of it?
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. I enjoyed it, and love the backstory it provides, but it's not one I want to watch over and over.

4. What is something (no matter what kind of mood your in) that makes you happy the moment you do it, see it, or hear it?
Um, shoot, I know there is something but I can't think of it. Cat videos, the show Whose Line is it Anyway?, Strong Bad emails, posting baking photos on IG/FB.

5.Do you believe that crop circles are made by human or alien?
ringsandcoffee: (cooking/baking)
It was just posted today.

1. How do you feel about cooking?
I enjoy it, but wish I knew how to make even more things. Also be more authentic - I think I make very simplified versions of a lot of ethnic dishes.
I am also usually too busy to cook, which is sad. I like real food!

2. How often do you cook a meal (from mostly fresh ingredients, not something ready-assembled that you just heat)?
Maybe twice a week. Usually more like once. That is pathetic. Lately, even less often.

3. How many people do you usually cook for, when you cook?
Me, me and me.

4. Do you have a favourite recipe book or chef?
No, but I love food blogs. Lately it's Food52 and Smitten Kitchen.

5. Kitchen tools: use the fewest possible or gadgets are your friend?
Gadgets are my friend. Sooooooo much to wash after I cook or bake! I should say that I have the tools I love, but not a lot of one-use items. Every so often I ALMOST get the avocado slicer. If I ate mangoes on a regular basis, I'd definitely get a mango cutter.

In honor of the day -

1. Have you ever been to Ireland?
No, the closest I've been is when we flew over it on the way to London. So, I saw it from the plane (I think).

2. According to Facts about Ireland, 73% of Americans are unable to locate Ireland on a map bereft of country names. Whether you are American or not, can you find it on a map?
I am American, and I've known where it is on a map since I was a kid.

3. Are you or do you know a natural redhead?
I am not a redhead, but often wished I was. I know several natural redheads.

4. Will you be celebrating St Patrick's Day?
I spent the entire day driving back from Disneyland, thankful I don't have to fight LA traffic on a regular basis. We did hit Downtown Disney one last time this morning though.

5. Do you even know who St. Patrick is and why we celebrate his day?
I have heard the story - he was a monk or a missionary I think. I just forgot most of it.

Email notifications for comments are sporadic lately. It's not until I look at the number of messages here that I see comments. So, sorry if I don't get back to anyone in a timely manner.

For anyone who cares, I am currently NOT watching the Super Bowl. Not even the commercials.

Another episode of Victoria is on tonight. I need to put away laundry. Um, yeah. Oh, I should also make sure my pre-observation meeting is not tomorrow.

Did I mention I started running again? 4 days this week. I hope to keep that up - Mon, Tues, Thurs and Saturdays are my goal. Also, I want to get faster. I'm at about 3.5 miles in 45 minutes. I would love to push it to 4 or more. I also need to find some arm exercises to do at home. Roku has some free exercise channels I need to check out. Maybe non-running days can be strength-training days. Maybe.

-How many pets have you had at one time?
2 cats, 2 dogs, and 2 bettas. I currently have 4 bettas, but I think I had 5 at one time.

-What is the strangest pet you have ever had?
Hermit Crabs. Not super strange, but it was an 80s thing.

-What is the coolest trick you have ever taught a pet?
My old roommate's cat would play fetch with the toy mice. He would also do some pretty incredible acrobatics when we tossed it to him.

-Real animals: What animal have you always wanted as a pet?
There isn't anything I've always wanted, but I'd like a small dog.

-Imaginary animals: Describe the ideal pet, an animal that doesn't really exist.
A small dog (or a cat) that does not shed and does not need to be walked (or litter box for a cat).

Questions were posted today. Better late than never.

1. Do you have one spot in your house where you like to go and just dream?
No. I sit on my couch a lot, and do a lot of thinking there. Then again, it's just where I sit.

2. Do you had a special blanket that you like to cuddle up in?
On said spot on the couch, it's covered in my super-soft blanket. It's more as protection (couch does not belong to me and I don't want to mess it up) but I still like to sit on it.

3. If you could have one room in your house refurnished, which one would it be?
In this house, the kitchen. Oh, wait, I misread that as renovated.

4. Did you have a good week?
It's only Tuesday, but it's been better than last week. Kids are behaving more, I started running again, and I've been baking. Blueberry muffins today.

5. Do you have special plans for the weekend?
I get to plan for my observation next Thursday! Oh joy.

At least once a week, I dream about going to or being in England. Usually they are wonderful. Last night's was not so pleasant, as it was combined with one of my recurring nightmares that I've not had for a while. The pleasant part was being somewhere that was a combination of York and Edinburgh (Yes, Scotland, I know). The nightmare part was I was somehow in school again, but forgot to go to class or could not find my classes. Then, I worried about failing. Oh, and to make things even more unpleasant, I was trying to drive on the left side of the road, and the bathroom of where I was staying had a tiny tiny shower I cold not fit in. WHAT was going on in my brain????

Just now, I forgot how to send an email. As in, I could not remember what to click, and finally found the 'send' button.

My no-soda resolution has gone well. Until today, I had nothing carbonated. The closest was when I added an inch of lemonade to my iced tea. There was one day I got lemonade with my meal, but it was real, not the 5% juice from a fountain type like I put in my tea before. Last night I was reeeeeeeeeeally craving carbonation. Not the sweet flavor, but the bubbly bit. However, I went with water. Today though, I caved and got Coke Zero with dinner. Normally, I'm not a fan of diet soda, but ohhhhhhhh this was wonderful. I think it will tide me over for a few more weeks. Considering I forgot the half case of cherry Coke out in the garage, I'm doing well.

Now I really want cheese. Or something salty. The kitchen is so far away...

Debating a shower tonight (like to extend the time between changing sheets) or tomorrow.

Once again, sitting at Chipotle and walking around Target, I remember a bunch of topics I wanted to post about. Now, gone. They'll probably pop back into mind 10 minutes after crawling into bed.

1. How do you like your coffee?
In mah belleh! :) Iced, brewed strong, and about 40:60 coffee and milk. Or hot with a good splash of cream.

2. How do you like your tea?
With milk or cream, no sugar.

3. What's your favorite late night beverage?
I don't really have one. There are nights when I want coffee though, so I'll make some instant decaf espresso and mix it with milk.

4. If you could only drink one thing for the next week, what would it be?
Hmm, does it count if it's my iced coffee and milk combo?

5. If you were on vacation, what would be the first thing you'd drink to celebrate?
Probably something from a coffee shop. If at home, maybe a glass of wine.

1) What would/did you name your first child?
girl: Miranda Caroline or Miranda Jane; boy: unsure. I was settled on Gabriel for YEARS but my love for that name has waned.

2) What do you think makes a good name for a baby?
Something that flows well (first and middle); something the parents have liked for a long time.

3) What do you think makes a bad name for a baby?
Kree8tyve spellings, made-up names, obviously named after fictional characters (to a point; I have a soft spot for Arwen from Lord of the Rings). As a teacher, I see some doozies of names.

4) What's a name that you love, but would never give a child? Why?
Dimitri, unless I married someone of Russian descent.

5) Did your parents do a good job naming you?
Rebecca is just fine, and calling me Becky works too.

As I sit here in my hoodie, I really appreciate the ~2 months of cold weather we get here. Cold as in 40s overnight, and 60s or low 70s during the day. Ok, low 70s are warmish but you still wear a sweater. We also had several days in the 50s, which was bliss. By February, it will be more consistent 70s weather. April may hit the 80s, and May is officially hot again. June has a few spikes; July and August just suck. SUCK. It makes me sad just thinking about it. But, no, I will appreciate the cold while I can.

The weekends are never long enough to both unwind from the week AND accomplish items on my never-ending to do list. However, I have checked off a few: wandered around the mall, went to a bunch of stores yesterday looking for a bookshelf I don't actually have space for, got groceries, made some lunches for the week, laundry is in process, and I procrastibaked more banana muffins to use up some bananas. What I have not done is change my bed sheets and look over lesson plans for this week. I have church in a bit, and then Sherlock is on at 8.

This morning I had breakfast with my old teammate, J. We of course talked about work, the ups and downs of each. The grass was not necessarily greener at her new school, and she sort of wants to throw her name back into the hat at my school. I told her it's not necessarily great there either, but at least it's friendly and familiar. Then again, she would leave teaching if she could. Who knows. It was good to see her.

BIG NEWS, PEOPLE! I started reading a book last night! What? Crazy. A post came up on FB from a year ago showing ~10 books I had not read. Well I had read half of one at the time. Since then, I read one book and started another (that I decided I don't like). Anyway, last night I started One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp. So far, so good. I need to make reading books before bed a habit again.

My no soda resolution is going well so far. I've been out to eat 3 times and got iced tea twice and an Arnold Palmer once, which I did not even finish. Healthy eating at home is still under construction. It's basically the same as usual, but I am trying to incorporate more fresh fruit and vegetables.

What else was I going to say? No idea. Oh. Postcards have been written and so hopefully tomorrow I can stop at the post office. Just FYI, if you get one from me, I apologize ahead of time for whatever dorky message I wrote.

I pretty much signed up for this to back up my LJ. I don't know if I'll cross-post but any LJ friends feel free to add me here.
