Last night, as the preview for Sense and Sensibility on Masterpiece Theater was showing, I got choked up like I haven't done since I watched TLC daytime. What was that about? I was excited, however. This version is darker, slightly more dramatic than the '95 version, but I still liked it. Can't wait to see the rest next week, though I do prefer Alan Rickman as Colonel Brandon. What is with the freaky curls plastered to Fanny's forehead, and in both versions??? Was her "son" played by a male or a female actor? To those of you who read the book, wasn't Sir John Middleton's wife as obnoxious in it as himself and his mother-in-law? She just sits there in the movie, with 5 children I also can't remember.

I read Northanger Abbey last week, and am onto Mansfield Park now. I cannot believe how women were treated back then! More thoughts on that later, but for now, dude, you treat Fanny (Mansfield Park) like crap then expect her to not have self-esteem issues? Similar issues with Jane Eyre, though different author.

Amazon shipped my DVDs of NA and MP today, so yay.

Oh good, you watched it. I was caught off guard by it being on today and when I started watching it I was like, "I hope Becky knows it's on!" lol

And yes! The curls, oh the curls! Every time she's on screen I just stare at those circulation-cutting curls. I wonder when that will come back in style? ;)

As for Middleton's wife, I think she was mostly a silent character. I vaguely remember her nagging John occasionally? And I think when the Dashwoods go into town she says something, but other than that I think she is minimal. My main memory from John is his mother-in-law. In fact, for split seconds I imagine them married lol.

I missed Emma on Easter Sunday, so I'll rent that eventually. For a brief moment I thought about not watching S&S but then came to my senses, ha ha ha. The very first scene, I was like, who is that, then caught on.

The curls! Ack, those women spent too much time on their hair!

I should upload some more S&S icons.

Wow ... I feel totally out of the loop. I didn't even know they made a new version of S&S! I looked it up after reading this entry and now I really wish I could have caught it when it was on :(

It should be on dvd, soon, if not already. They've been showing new Austen movies since January, well, P&P and Emma were old.
