Monday, three of my friends/coworkers (the 4th grade team at my old school) went on a shopping road trip. We piled into my car and drove 300 miles across the desert to the outlet mall in Cabazon, CA. Yes 300 miles. Susan and I came up with the idea long ago, and when we mentioned it to the others, they were game as well. Why so far, you must be asking. Well, the outlet mall is pretty big, and they have some high-end stores you can't find any closer. Specifically, they have a Coach outlet, which was our major destination. A Kate Spade outlet too, where I was very tempted by a few purses. However, it was a really good deal at Coach, and a lot of egging and nudging by my friends, that made me cave in. I'm still a little in shock over my purchase, but I had sort of budgeted for it. Plus, I got an unexpected stipend today, which more than pays for the purse. So, yeah. Jill and Susan got purses too, and Larisa got a wallet, plus a purse from Fossil.

Along from all the shopping, we had so much fun. I brought a bunch of cds so they could play DJ and keep the music going. We made the requisite stop at Starbucks in Blythe, CA, which was also a time to get out and stretch. I've passed the outlets many times on my drives to and from CA, but I forgot exactly where they were, but they are right next to the freeway, can't be missed. I just got my city locations mixed up. On the way home we listened to Phantom of the Opera and Moulin Rouge soundtracks, and they got to hear my "Single Music" mix. "Walking After You" by Foo Figthers is on it, and I thought none of the others would know it. As soon as it started playing, Susan went NUTS. She loves that song. Needless to say, I was happy that she was happy. Had to stop for gas in Chiriaco Summit, and paid $4.87/gal. We all agonized trying to remember who sings "Sultans of Swing" until Jill remembered, shouting out Dire Straits as we pulled up to the Starbucks drive-thru. The barista might have thought us a little crazy with our giggling.

I love road trips. I love my friends. It was an excellent day.

[livejournal.com profile] laurasia_mystik, [livejournal.com profile] mysterygal11, and [livejournal.com profile] bowiechaser, you might remember this song since I heard it on a Starbucks cd way back when. It used to come on first thing when I had opening shifts, and it was just kind of cool to hear first thing in the morning. Anyway, it's called The Man With the Harmonica by Apollo Four Forty; the genre says electronic. I got it on iTunes. I had the band name wrong, thinking it was Zero 7 but then I randomly found the song and band written in an old notebook. Yay.

I made lasagna again today, from scratch. Used 3 different sauces, ha. Still, it's yummy, and now I'm full.

Need to take some Advil, but when I tried to do that I got distracted. Ugh, achy.

Having an iTunes account is a test of willpower. I got an iTunes card so I could d/l CSI episodes since I don't have a VCR. $1.99, no commercials, not bad. Often on the radio I hear songs that I want to download, anything from classic rock (Eagles) to 80s/90s (Lenny Kravitz) to recent stuff (like that Gnarles Barkley song, Crazy). AOL radio has an all Dave Matthews channel, which I periodically check trying to hear my favorite song, Crush. In the past, it was one of my listen-to-on-repeat songs when I was depressed about guys/being single. Last weekend, I finally hear it, though I missed the beginning. So, I finally broke down and bought it, along with another song I love, Are You Gonna Be My Girl? by Jet. The Jet song I often search the radio for. If I hear that song in the car, I totally dance. It's so easy to buy through iTunes, which is why I bought the card instead of storing my credit card information online. That could be a disaster worse than my coffee addiction.

Praying and not panicking has worked pretty well. I have gotten a bunch done, more housework than school work. However, that's what happens when I leave my plan book with this week's vocabulary list and my grammar textbook at school. I still need to grade essays and book reports, but I really don't want to do that because the grades will depress me. Oh well. I wasn't planning on watching the Oscars anyway.

CD recommendation: The Fray - How to Save a Life. I like it a lot.

Last week, on a totally wasteful trip to Target, I wandered into the Easter section, and found Peeps bean bags. They're little stuffed chicks and bunnies that look just like their marshmallow counterparts. It took me several minutes before I settled on a blue bunny. I'm such a sucker for cuteness.
