Scorpion + paranoid = scorpionoid.
Aug. 1st, 2011 10:36 pmI've coined a new word for myself. After finding a scorpion on the wall in my closet this morning, I was scorpionoid for the rest of the day. Let me tell you how freaked out I was. Seeing one in the garage a week ago was bad enough, but now INSIDE the house? Oh no no no. Six years in Arizona and now I'm finally seeing scorpions.
This one was hiding behind a calendar I'd hung in the closet*. I took the calendar down to turn it to August, then dropped it on the floor. When I looked at the empty space, I saw what I thought was a bug squished on the wall. BUT, it was a scorpion. Being home alone, I didn't know what to do. I don't know how Allyson feels about scorpions, but it would have been nice to have her around just the same. It was sort of awkward to reach with my shirts hanging near it, and I didn't really want to squish it. So after a few minutes of the scorpion walking in circles and me flailing, I got the vacuum and sucked it up with the hose. The bugger had a good grip on the wall! Later, I kept looking in the canister to make sure it was dead. For the rest of the day I've looked before leaping, afraid of seeing one again. ACK I hope I can sleep tonight. Every dark spot in the corner of my eye gets a double take.
*Why was a calendar in the closet? Because it's a 2005 LOTR poster calendar I can't bear to throw away. A few days ago, I saw that the numbered days match this year, so I took it out to put up near my desk. However, August is Gollum, so meh.
