Maybe I shouldn't have been reading my flist while on the phone with my friend. I paused while I typed a comment and my friend asks who I am emailing. I said I wasn't, that I was commenting on someones LJ and he had no idea what that was. After a failed explanation, I told him to go to livejournal.com and then directed him to
baristas so he could get a sense of what a blog is. Well, he just made fun of me and of the community. I tried explaining my flist to him, and he couldn't understand why I care about things people I've never met say. I got irritated and said that I am basically his own personal blog because he calls me and complains about his life/job/whatever and I "comment" to him. He wanted to leave a stupid comment on one of the barista posts but I told him not to, and that they might have disabled anonymous posting anyway.
He's a good friend, and I know he wasn't totally serious, but I was still kind of irked. Don't make fun of something I like just because you don't get it. It is not abnormal to communicate with people you've never met in 3D, and to enjoy doing so. He's not ignorant about the internet by any means, but he doesn't do anything social besides email.
