[Obligatory?] Election post

I got to the polls at about 5:40 this morning, leaving home at the time I usually leave for work. The polling station is just down the street. I was about 15th in line, and was done by 6:15. Not knowing if there'd be lines, I decided to go first thing in the morning so I wouldn't have to run out after work. After work I went to Starbucks to grade papers and had my laptop with me. I had email, CNN, and Facebook open. Yes, I was grading papers too! I drove past my polling station on my way home, and it was empty at 6:30 p.m. I guess I could have voted after work, but then I couldn't wear my "I voted" sticker all day :) My kids kept asking who I voted for, and I said "the president." It was an idea I got from another teacher. I said I'd tell them tomorrow who I voted for, but for now it's a personal thing. I also told them I voted according to how I felt and having looked at many issues, and that a person's vote is THEIR choice and not one that should be made by pressure from others. One of my students said he would vote for Obama because "he said he'd give everyone free passports." Yeah, I think there was some misunderstanding there.
I voted for McCain. Even though I voted for him, I had some reservations about Sarah Palin, but probably not ones you'd expect. It wasn't about experience or qualififcations, it was about family. She has young children, and an infant son with Downs Syndrome. I am a working woman myself, and will most likely be a working mother someday in the future, but VP is a lot different than a teacher. I feel like her children would suffer with her having such a time-consuming job. Think whatever you will, and I'm not saying Palin has to be a stay-at-home mom, otherwise she wouldn't have gotten to be governer. She obviously has ability to do her job, but just the potential impact on her family is on my mind. Not bothered, not sad, just on my mind.
So, I'll probably wake up to hear that Obama has won, since he's got so many electoral votes already. Anyway, I'm tired, and need to sleep.

I hate my state's results - passing I-1000 (assisted suicide) and I-1049 (mandatory additional training for caregivers...it's not the TRAINING that's the problem, it's the OVERSIGHT of those @#*$(&*$%& people who rape and abuse the people in their care that is THE ISSUE). I am sick, sick, sick over the whole mess. I really, REALLY hope that none of the conservative predictions about this dem-controlled EVERYTHING come true.
