I tried to read Cold Mountain while I was doing fieldwork in Utah. It made me want to leave my tent and jump off a cliff. SO DEPRESSING.

Or maybe it's just me.

LOL well, crap, I just bought it. It's been on my list for a while, and I haven't seen the movie yet. Thanks for the info though.

But a lot of other people liked it, including literary experts! What do I know?

It's not just you. I agree. Bleh. Not tear-jerking, horribly sad depressing like a Nicholas Sparks novel, just depressing. And completely unsatisfying. It doesn't end in a way that feels complete.

I must have read the wrong Nicholas Sparks novel (A Bend in the Road) because he made me gag with cheesiness.

Which Austen novel? I've already read P&P and Sense and Sensibility.

Either Emma or Persuasion. I liked 'em both. I haven't read Northanger Abbey yet...it's on my list...but I've read Mansfield Park and it's harder to swallow than any of her others.

I voted twice...Princess Bride and another Jane Austen, because I couldn't decide. I loved the Princess Bride and highly recommend it, but Jane Austen is one of my favorites.
