I went to my classroom today, which got a thorough cleaning, yay! Amen for small miracles: I have a full class set of Anne Frank books! That was the book I was planning on doing this quarter, and if I didn't have enough copies, I would be kind of screwed. I really wish I had enough copies to assign to each student, but oh well. Such is the life of an urban teacher.

Now, I really need to get plans going.

That is such a good book. It's very engaging but sobering - maybe it'll draw in some of the kids who normally slack off.

Maybe. I thought kids would really be into The Outsiders because they could relate to it, but I still had many who chose not to do the work. I need to re-read Anne Frank myself, since I think *I* was in 8th grade when I last read it.

I've been reading one of my teacher books, and getting a lot of good hints. I've tried many so far, with some success, but I think I need to keep giving more examples of what needs to be mastered. That's kind of hard, since I have to choose the skills and objectives based on the materials I have. My other reading series presents like 50 objectives per story ;P Right now I'm pumped about school, even though I'm not yet prepared. Attitude is everything.
