BECAUSE THERE IS A BIT OF SUPERNATURAL IN IT (JUST A SMALL BIT) AND IT IS A FANTASTIC BOOK AND YOU MUST EITHER READ IT OR WATCH THE 2006 MINISERIES, OR THIS UPCOMING MOVIE.
There's no ghost-hunting or vampires or anything. Comments I have read mentioned they are playing up the gothic themes a little more in this version than others.
