Old habits die hard

I really ought to be saving every penny I can, but instead I've gone to Starbucks twice this week and Chipotle today. Yeah...

They announced the 4 resignations at the RIF meeting today, since we might be the cushion that helps others keep their jobs. The boss asked each of us if it was ok to say it, and we didn't mind. Yesterday, another good friend who's at another school surprised us with tne news she also resigned. Too much stress and too many expectations at her school, though not the same as at mine.

Over the weekend I was really anxious about the future, but since turning in my letter I've felt relaxed. The possibility of something to do with food or cooking keeps coming to mind, as does writing in some fashion. Working at Chipotle would rock, if it paid enough to live on. I should research that. The reminder that in 2013, 33-50% of a teacher's salary will be tied to test scores made me think maybe I should avoid public education all together. That bothers me for a few reasons. One, what about primary grades or electives teachers, who don't have state tests? Second, from something discussed at the meeting, I forsee those teachers being assigned the score for the entire school. So, they could benefit or be punished, salary-wise, for something over which they have no control.

I have writing that needs to be scored, and I just don't want to do it. Time, however, is running out. Conferences in 2 weeks!
