larksong reminded me of going to camp as a kid. First was daycamp at Melrose Baptist Church in Oakland. How we ended up going, I have no idea, since it was 45 minutes away from home. Still, I loved it. Bible lessons, swimming, hikes, swimming, crafts, and did I mention swimming? In a pool, not a pond. That was during elementary school summers. In jr. hihg and high school, it was a week at Hume Lake. Gather early Sunday morning, mill around the buses for 2 hours, finally get them packed, then drive 6 hours. Bus problems were the norm, and were actually a fun, if not semi-expected part of the journey. At camp, we had speakers for the week, games, team competitions, rotating shifts setting up and serving at meals, hoping to hear your name during mail call, Victory Circle, rejoicing when you got the cabin with a bathroom even if it was at the top of the hill, swimming, canoeing, the Cove, the bike jump, the store, eating tons of junk food...
Everyone should experience camp in their lives, says I.
