Life sans computer, cleaning, detox...
Jan. 7th, 2009 11:21 pmYesterday morning my computer was acting wonky, and I found it had been infected with a nasty virus. Long story short, I ended up taking it to Staples to get cleaned and have Norton 360 installed. I'm not excited about the $$ I had to shell out, but it's fixed and protected. I took my work laptop to a coffee shop (Extreme Bean, if you're reading this, Luis) to get my internet fix. Maybe when I upgrade my DSL I'll get wireless with it.
At home, I was forced to put on dvds for entertainment while I did laundry, unpacked and cleaned. I watched Persuasion 2008 and most of S&S 2008. As I cleaned, I came across junk here and there that I don't know why I still have. Some I don't even remember that I still have. The urge to purge kicked in. Something that may finally go is my remaining collection of 1st generation Beanie Babies, which have been in a box since I moved here. Other stuff will have to be reorganized, sorted, and DUSTED. My dusty room, let me show you it!
Tonight, since I have my computer back, I've been far less productive. However, I did go through a file drawer and toss a huge bunch of papers saved from when I was in the credential program in 2001-2002. I didn't even remember they were in there. Thus, I do not need them. After visiting Erol and
ewanspotter last weekend, I feel like I have too much crap. They live in smaller places than me, but they don't feel small. The more I accumulate, the more space I feel I need. Well, more storage space.
Lastly: detox. Some celeb nutritionist was describing a detox regiment she gives, which doesn't actually sound that bad. It's eating a protein and a carb (that is, a fruit or vegetable) every 4 hours, and drinking tea with detoxifying ingredients like peppermint or dandelion. I don't know how well I'd do on a regimented detox or diet, though I'm tempted to try. Much as I love my Starbucks and fast food, I know I should eat better.
I made hummus yesterday, does that count for something?
