Listy list!

-I read Northanger Abbey in about 4 days.  Yay for time off.  Very cute book.  Now I just have two more Austen books to read.  Persuasion the movie was a bit drab, so I hope the book is better.  Mansfield Park I need to buy.

-I went shopping yesterday and today, and spent a good deal of money.  I got some new work clothes, which always helps.  The weather has suddenly jumped up into the 80s-90s, so the warm weather gear was needed.  Still, I should go through my closet and see what can go, what can stay, and what I still need.

-I have a love-hate thing for Old Navy.  More than half their inventory is clearance priced, and such a mess that I don't have the patience to search the racks.  Perhaps if they didn't sell such weird stuff/tissue thin shirts/odd-ball colored clothes/bizarre prints/dreaded halter or tube tops, I'd buy more from them.  More than just tee-shirts.

-I don't know if I'm changing sizes or if stores are.  The shirts I had 9 or so of from Target were size L.  They've changed the fabric (it's the basic Mossimo V-neck tees) and now I have to get XL.  I went to Gap outlet, and found I had to get XL in those shirts too, and I tried on 3 different styles.  However, at Ann Taylor Loft, the large top fit perfectly, and it isn't a cotton tee so it won't shrink.

-Changes in my diet are slow, but I'm trying.  Latest change: plain iced lattes instead of gettint some flavored syrup.  A little less sugar daily has to help.

-Even though I gave most of it away, I want to make another carrot cake.   It was scrumptious!

-CD recommendation: Red, "End of Silence"

I heard recently (ok, so it was a trivia question) - that Old Navy will soon be no more! craziness.

Yeah, I read an article about it; AOL likes to recycle the same stories for 2 weeks straight. I can't imagine, with how many new Old Navy locations that open, they would close down. Actually, the article said tehy would turn to Gap stores, but the interior of Old Navy is far different from a Gap. That said, I love Gap!

Some years Old Navy has really cute stuff. Some years, not so much. This year's pretty fugly.

I got a couple of really cute graphic tees there recently, but otherwise, I'm usually disappointed. ON used to be a cheaper version of Gap, with good basic stuff, but they seem to have embraced the retro 80s thing a little too much, and for far too long. Also, shirts I can't see my bra through please!

You are not going crazy about the sizing issue. I have actually lost a little weight recently and had to go up a size in shirts at stores like Old Navy and Target. Maybe it's an issue of where production is being outsourced. Different countries seem to have different sizing scales. I don't know.

High-end places like Ann Taylor practice what's called "vanity sizing." For example, their 8 is what other retailers might call a 10. I LOVE Ann Taylor. I buy a few investment pieces there once or twice a year. They are classics that never seem to go out of style and they last forever.

My advice to you is to buy what fits and looks good, then cut the size tag out as soon as you get home. You are beautiful no matter what number is screaming from your waistband. I've been cutting numbers out of my clothes since I grew out of my size 6 jeans.

Oh and I'm with you on the flea-market feel of ON's clearance items. Especially if you have a small child in tow. Who has time to comb through a random pile of junk? The see-through shirts drive me crazy, too. Who wears this stuff? I do like their PJ bottoms and I've been able to get tons to tanks there for like $1.50 each.

Oh, the numbers or letters indicating size don't bother me. It's just when I'm used to getting size 10 or large from the same stores and then suddenly those don't fit anymore, it makes me wonder.

I love Ann Taylor. I'm willing to spend more on items from there because I know the quality is worth the price. I have a couple of dresses from AT, however, that I haven't worn yet due to lack of occasion. I really wish I could wear them!

Oh my. Wear them anyway!
