I totally panicked for a bit. I thought I was possibly out of a job. Crap, I never want to feel like that again.

I think I still hate my district though.

I misunderstood my friend when she called to tell me the result of the board vote. I thought they had gone with the alternate plan which cut 40 or so teachers. The plan that passed, the creation of a middle school, cuts 15 positions, which aren't all teachers and may be lost due to attrition anyway.

Why is it I'd rather stay in a craptastic district than go search for another job?

i feel the same way. i hate hate hate my school, but am so apathetic when it comes to finding a new job that i'm willing to stick it out. it's more complicated than that, but sometimes i feel like i'm just staying out of laziness.

Last night was the vote about what to do with my district, and I mistakenly thought they had chosen the plan that cut a ton of teachers. So, for a half hour or so, I thought I might be out of a job. But, instead, my school is changing from K-8 to just 7th/8th, and I'll be going to one of the other schools in the district.

But whew! So glad it was just a false alarm.

Perhaps you stay in your district because you still have the slightest bit of hope that things will get better when all this is over? Or maybe it is because you're in a familiar environment and the thought of going elsewhere is a little daunting? Hmmm...

It is a familiar environment, and things could be worse in another district (if that's possible). Also, I'm too lazy/scared to search for another job.
