Simple pleasures

Starbucks blueberry scones - So good I was willing to forgo sleeping in to go get one. Oh, lovely scones only available in CA, how I've missed thee!

Bettas - they're just so darn cute. I should convince my sister to get another one.

Getting accustomed to new cars - I've already "broken in" the car by driving with the E-brake on. Didn't realize it till I got to my destination, and then I could smell it when I got out of the car. I'm so bad about that!

Vacation - what else can I say?

I hate to be all stupid but what's "Bettas"?
*sheepish grin*

A Betta is a fish...Betta Splendens is the fairly common fish (that's beautiful) that you see in cups (completely inappropriate homes) in pet stores.
Most pet store people don't know diddly about them, and they're chock full of MISinformation.

*headdesks*
I feel all stupid now.
And the look on Bormoir's face on your icon serves my stupidity very well.
*headesks again*

Thanks anyways.
I'm not much of a fish fan.
My grandad has loads of all kinds of fish.
I'm more of a lover of cats and anything with fur though.

I'll probably get a new betta when I get moved into the apartment. I might as well, I've got so much fish stuff left over from Daniel I might as *well* get another fish.

Some people seem to end up with a lot of stuff for their bettas. I never needed more than a tank, food, and water treatment drops.

I <3 my bettas. My fourth betta still needs a name though.

[identity profile] ewanspotter.livejournal.com 2006-06-26 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
What are the other three betta's names?

[identity profile] ringsandcoffee.livejournal.com 2006-06-26 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
Frodo, Gimli and Bernard. Bernard was the first non-LOTR named fish.

[identity profile] ewanspotter.livejournal.com 2006-06-27 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
What does the fourth fish look like?

He's a really pretty aqua/sky blue with a little bit of a rainbow tint.

You don't have bbry scones in Mesa? Whaaat? I do love the sugary goodness on top.

I once bought one in Santa Cruz and brought it home to eat. My roommie was like, "I don't know how you can eat that. It's just factory made." But I had an organic, gourmet scone from a specialty shop a few weeks ago, and it was exactly the same.

We do have blueberry scones in Mesa, but they're not the same as the dome-shaped ones in CA. The texture is also slightly different. I could always choose a Starbucks pastry I liked in CA, but in AZ I only really like the TABs and banana chocolate chip cake.

For teh record, Bettas do best in heated and filtered tanks that're at least 3 gallons in size - they really blossom in that environment. Rice paddies are miles wide and several feet deep, too. :p

That's my Vitaliy - he passed away a while back.
I've been keeping Bettas for 5+ years now....I love them! They're the best fish EVER!!!

WHAT??? I keep my 4 bettas in 1/3 to 1/2 gallon plastic tanks. 2 of the tanks used to have dividers so 2 bettas could be kept in the same tank. I change their water maybe once a month, and they are happy as clams. The little cups you buy them in are small, so of course I get them bigger homes, but if I had to have a 3 gal. tank for one fish, well I'd only have one fish.

*nods* Yup. They're tropical fish. They CAN live in the smaller containers, but a bigger one is better so they can actually swim around and "stretch their fins"....kinda like a dog is fine living in an apartment - its basic needs are met, but they deserve to go for long walks and have a yard to run in.
:)

For the size container you've got 'em in, you should be changing about half the water every week, unless you've got an test kits of ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate and test the water regularly to make sure everything is under its limit. I'm totally not meaning that to sound snotty in ANY way, and if it at all comes across like that, I totally apologize. I just love the little boogers and want the best for 'em.
