Friday Five

[livejournal.com profile] thefridayfive FOR NOVEMBER 3, 2017 (it was posted a day late)

1. Have you ever had a movie both totally captivate and completely confuse you?
I walked out of the theater after Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind doing the confused dog head tilt, and I think I was speechless as well.

2. When watching a movie, do you prefer things all laid out or to have to 'hunt for your own clues' along the way?
I like movies (or tv shows) that make me think. Used to love CSI, though more for the how/science than figuring out whodunit.

3. Do you want an ultimate ending to your movie or do you prefer to have it open for conjecture and discussion.
I want a definite ending. Preferably a happy one. I'm okay with the occasional twist ending that leaves you unsure of what really happened.

4. Do you talk during a movie (preferably one in your home, not in the theatre)?
Only about what we're watching. If in the theater, I whisper into the person's ear. If at home, whoever I'm watching with is usually talking right along with me. In either case, the person/people I'm watching with don't mind.

5. Have you ever seen a blockbuster movie and not get what was so great about it?
Yes, but I can't think of a specific example at the moment.

5. The Notebook always springs immediately to mind. There are others too, but that one is the worst. I mean, I think Pearl Harbor or Armageddon or Titanic were dumb stories but there were big booms or fancy cinematography or lovely costumes or whatever, but The Notebook? Bluh.

I've not seen that one - I think I'll skip it. There's enough confusion in my world without adding to it.

That's what I do, too. I whisper in the theatre, but not as much when I'm home. :P

I'm totally with you on no. 3.

I've not watched "Eternal Sunshine ... " - don't think I will now.

Maybe I should make the New Year's Resolution to stay on Friday Fives next year...

aww, I LOVE eternal sunshine, course the first time I watched it was after I had recently broken up with my boyfriend and so it resonated with me.

2 and 3. The recent alien movie movie "Arrival" starring Amy Adams (which I think is on netflix or hulu now). OH MY WORD that ending. You find out at the ending that there were clues all along but still, mind - blown. And then you think about it for DAYS. And Paul and I argued over how to even label the ending - happy or sad (depending on how you interpreted it).

NOPE, NOPE, NOPE. Give me a clear, definite ending every time (preferably a cheery, happy one).
