Jane Eyre 2011 tally: 4
Three times in the theater, and now once at home.
spally, so glad you got to see it.
holbytla, you've got to see it! Oh, and somehow my excitement last night led me to put in Our Mutual Friend. No idea how that movie relates to Jane Eyre.
-There's 7 or 8 deleted scenes on the dvd. Some I am glad they didn't include in the finished movie.
-Me being the book nerd, I kept picking out direct quotes and doing silent cheers upon hearing them.
-I watched the ending 3 times in a row. I won't spoil anything by describing it, but I must say it gave me chills. The second time, I turned on the subtitles, and then totally missed them. Usually subtitles draw my eyes to themselves, but not in this moment.
Now, I wait for the icons to start rolling in.

Just a thought for when you do watch it - the first time you might be stuck comparing it to the book. If that happens, watch it again, trying to just appreciate it as a stand-alone movie, as if you didn't know the story. If you end up disliking it, well, that's ok. I like it despite my criticisms of it. Oh, and don't watch the deleted scenes until AFTER watching the movie.

I was stuck comparing it to the book. I tried hard to fight that, but did not succeed. The compliments I have for it are:
-Very pretty
-Loved the sets
-Actors were great
Other than that, the 06 version beats the tar out of 2011! They had more time, yes, but even accounting for that. Every scene I was looking forward to was a let down. Like my favorite, the meeting on the road. I was so hoping to have it more misty and scary and maybe a gray dog lurking in the brush, but no. And the rest of the scene was not as good as 06. I do give them kudos for mentioning the legend of that dog thing (forgot the name) and for Rochester saying the line about waiting for her people, but it still wasn't even enough to save it for me.
Oh, and why didn't they show Rochester trying to save Bertha? The house burning? They've been doing flash backs the whole time but not for that? Must have ran out of time :/
BUT anyway, I'll stop and maybe go in to detail more on my journal. Things of been busy lately. Maybe tomorrow?
I'm hoping to watch the deleted scenes some time this week. My attention has been snatched by reading The Hunger Games at night, which is my normal DVD time.

Yes, '06 does beat the tar out of '11. BUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Watch it again. I swear, it will be different when you are able to set aside the book and/or the '06 comparisons. Also, the super short scenes that we wish were longer (or more emotional) become more enjoyable over time. I watched it a 5th time with a friend who had not seen it yet, and I was still enthralled.
Oh, 5th time watching and the bird suddenly flying at her STILL makes me jump.

It is a very jumpy movie! The fireplace part was neat.
