Ooh, burn.

Monday night, I just barely bumped my hand on the oven and burned it. It's a half-inch spot at the base of my thumb, on the back of my hand. It would be healing all fine and well except that I keep bumping it. On everything. It was sort of scabbed over but getting wet and/or scraping it accidently has made it a nasty-looking thing. I feel like it's the wound that will never go away.

Grr.

I don't understand burns. I burned myself on the oven back in June (I only remember June because I know I was still in school). It was about an inch-in-diameter circle from when I bumped my arm against the top of the oven. Now, due to reflexes, I retracted my arm RIGHT away and I was smart enough to put ice on it right away (and had ice on it all that night). I didn't even think it was that bad of a burn. Yeah...I still have a 1-inch-in-diameter white circle on my arm :-/

I put ice on first, then read you should run it under cool water for 5 minutes, so I did. I don't know if the burn wasn't so bad or if the water does a better job but it didn't hurt after that. Knocking it, scraping, and having band-aids stick to it at times seems to be delaying healing. That and it's all uneven.

I had a burn scar on my arm from the iron for a couple years before it finally disappeared.

I remember one time I was carrying a mug of boiling hot water upstairs because my mom was going to try and do some fabric dyeing trick and I spilled it all over my arm. The skin was red as a lobster for about 2 days. Is there any chance you can get your hands on some Sylvadine (or SSD) cream? It's a great cream for burns.

I read that you should run cool water over burns for about 5 minutes, and that helped with the pain. It's been in the days since that I keep messing up the healing process by scraping it and such.

Sorry. Be careful. even the smallest burns can become infected.

Burns are the worst. I find that a cortisone (cortizone?) cream or salve works really well on them. It definitely keeps the pain at bay for me.
