For dinner, I sauteed some diced yellow squash and purple onions. I originally bought the squash because I wanted to mash it like my mom used to do, but to saute was faster. The onions, well, ever since my Peruvian food last Saturday, I've been craving onions. I have a purple onion and a bunch of green onions, and need to find more uses for them.

Today was an early release, and the staff had a very condensed seminar on the principles from Ruby Payne's book called Culture of Poverty (or something close to that). I'd heard of the book many times probably since I was still in school, but never read it. Even in our short time, I was amazed by what I heard. Another teacher had the book, and loaned it to me. Yes, to read in all my spare time.

Principal came in today for about 5 minutes. He was waiting for the reading teacher to arrive in the room next door to mine. I got all frazzled, since he hasn't watched me actually teaching before. I think I did ok, but ack.

Night #2 of mot doing any work. CSI later.

Well our training was apparently a 2 day thing condensed into about 2 hours, given by my principal's good friend (also a principal). They treated it like the cure-all for my school, saying we WILL be performing or performing plus this year. Uh, yeah, sure. Moving along.

Yesterday several teachers said they'd already had training or something with the book with their last principal or at another school. A few said they were really bothered if not offended by some of the material. A couple said they grew up in poverty and didn't agree with all of it. I htink it has a few useful points, but like everything else, take it with a grain of salt.
